Abstract or Description
The history of school libraries in Australia is traced from the beginnings of European-style educational provision in this country until 1900. In the nineteenth century, libraries were developed in many Sunday schools (which provided a general education for children and young adults prior to 1830) and in the parochial, primary, post-primary, and independent secondary schools. These library collections are briefly described, with notes on their organisation and aims.
